Opportunity statuses and lifecycle
Written by the CustomerSaid team · Updated Oct 14, 2026 · 2 min read
Every opportunity has a status that says where it is in your process. Moving between statuses is a recorded decision, so your team can later see who decided what and why.
Who can do this: people who can record decisions (Member, Admin, Owner).
The statuses
- Candidate. A proposed opportunity that still needs confirmation. Check that it is real and different from existing ones.
- Qualified. Confirmed as real. You can now decide to work on it, park it or dismiss it.
- Prioritized. On the active backlog. The team plans to work on it.
- Parked. On hold for now. You can return to it later.
- Addressed. The team has dealt with it. If similar feedback returns, you can reopen it.
- Dismissed. The team decided not to pursue it. You can change that decision later.
Allowed moves
Candidate to qualified, qualified to prioritized, parked or dismissed. Parked and prioritized can move back and forth. Prioritized can move to addressed, and addressed can be reopened as prioritized. Only moves that make sense are offered.
Record a decision
- Open the opportunity.
- Choose the action, such as Qualify, Prioritize, Park, Dismiss or Mark addressed.
- Write a short rationale explaining the decision.
- Confirm.
The decision, rationale and author are saved in the opportunity's history.
Where candidates come from
AI-suggested opportunities start as candidates. Accepting the suggestion in Review makes them qualified. A candidate you create by hand starts as a candidate and needs qualifying.
Addressed and dismissed
Both archive the opportunity. Reopening an addressed opportunity clears the archive and returns it as prioritized. A merged duplicate cannot be reopened.
Shipping a solution does not close the opportunity
When a linked solution is released, the opportunity does not change automatically. You are shown the open opportunities it addresses and prompted to mark them addressed with a rationale. This keeps your demand history honest.
Tips
- Write the rationale for your future self and your teammates.
- Park instead of dismissing when you simply lack capacity.
