Evidence, merging and duplicates

Evidence is what makes an opportunity credible. When two opportunities turn out to describe the same problem, you can merge them so the evidence adds up in one place.
Evidence on an opportunity
The opportunity page lists its linked signals. Each shows the exact customer quote, the company and contact, where it came from and when. Evidence can arrive through:
- A suggestion you accepted in Review.
- Automatic linking, if enabled.
- A link you made by hand.
A signal can be linked to several opportunities. You can unlink one at any time and the signal returns to being unlinked.
Merge a duplicate
Who can do this: people who can manage opportunities and record decisions (Member, Admin, Owner).
- Open the duplicate opportunity.
- Open its menu and choose Merge into.... You can also use the menu on its row in the list.
- Choose the opportunity that should remain. The dialog shows each candidate's status and signal count, and what will move.
- Confirm. The target opens when it is done.
What moves
- Evidence links. A signal linked to both keeps one link, with the higher relevance.
- Linked solutions. A solution linked to both keeps one link.
- The product area, if the target has none.
- Custom field values the target has not filled.
- Journal entries, copied across with a "merged from" marker.
The target keeps its own title, problem statement and priority inputs, and its score is recalculated. Pending AI suggestions that mention the duplicate are superseded.
What happens to the duplicate
It is dismissed and archived, shows a Merged into banner and remembers its target. Everyone watching it starts watching the target.
A merge cannot be undone. The duplicate cannot be restored or reopened.
Limits
You cannot merge an opportunity into itself, into an archived opportunity or into one that was itself merged away.
Tips
- Merge early. Duplicates split the evidence and understate priority.
- Check the target's title. It stays as it is.
- If you are unsure the problems are the same, link the evidence to both instead of merging.
